Polo was never an import to India. The world learned the game from the
fields of Manipur and the royal grounds of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Patiala.
In Ahmedabad, the game does not arrive. It returns.

Gujarat Polo Club was founded to bring competitive polo back to a state that has always prized courage, enterprise and culture. Its first tournament, in January 2026, became the largest polo event ever staged in Gujarat.
An annual fixture on India's polo calendar, played to Indian Polo Association rules.
Training, stabling and pony care in Gujarat, so the next generation of riders does not have to leave home to learn.
Family stands, youth clinics and school outreach. The game of kings, opened to the city.
From the steppes of Persia to a floodlit ground on SP Ring Road. Polo is the oldest team sport on horseback, and India wrote most of its story.

The game is traced to Persia and Central Asia. In Manipur, Sagol Kangjei was played for centuries and is recognised as the precursor of modern polo.

Maharajas kept elite teams, bred champion ponies and built grounds of their own. Jaipur, Jodhpur and Patiala became polo powerhouses. It wasn't recreation. It was identity.

Founded in 1892, the IPA still governs the sport nationally: handicaps, tournament levels, team eligibility and pony registration.

Winter polo returns to India's heritage cities, drawing international players, patrons and full stands once again.

The first Ahmedabad Polo Tournament, 2–4 January 2026. Eight teams, three nights, and a new name on the map of Indian polo.
Two teams of four riders. Numbers One and Two attack, Three is the playmaker, and Four, the Back, guards the goal. The mallet is held in the right hand only.
Roughly 300 yards by 160: the largest field in organised sport. The goal posts stand eight yards apart, with no crossbar and no height limit.
A match is played in four to six periods called chukkas, about seven minutes each. Riders change ponies between them; the horses are half the team.
Every strike draws an invisible line. The rider following it has right of way, and crossing it is a foul. It is the rule that protects horse and rider at full gallop.
After every goal the teams swap ends, so neither wind nor ground decides the game.
Every player is rated from −2 for a beginner to +10 for the world's elite. A team's combined handicap decides which level of tournament it may enter.
Three nights in January. The largest polo event Gujarat has ever staged.
The opening ceremony began with horses in Indian formation. Former Miss World Manushi Chhillar revealed the trophy alongside the team owners, before dance troupes and a set by V Unbeatable of America's Got Talent lit the ground.

Under the floodlights, the league table took shape. Between chukkas the arena belonged to the horses: tent pegging, six-bar jumping, the three-barrel race and hanky picking.

Lions Den Legends edged Apollo Aviators 4–3 in the women's match. In the men's final, Mayfair Polo and Pune Warriors were tied 7–7 at the end of regulation, and Pune Warriors struck the golden goal.

Consistent across all three nights, and calmest when it mattered. Runners-up: Mayfair Polo.
Each team carried a mix of Indian professionals, international players and emerging Indian talent.

Before a ball was struck, the tournament rode through the city: horses and riders, vintage and premium cars, a double-decker "Baraat on Wheels", carnival music and flags along key routes.
Restored vintage cars and a lineup of luxury and performance machines, displayed around the grounds from the build-up week onwards.
Tent pegging, six-bar jumping, the three-barrel race, hanky picking and team tent pegging. Horsemanship in every form, between the chukkas.
A live set by Indian pop singer Lekka, dance and throne acts, and a closing ceremony of lasers, light suits and fireworks.
Hospitality lounges, a La Martina apparel display, families in the stands and business conversations that became partnerships. In Ahmedabad, the polo season is a date to keep.
